Section 3: Project Focus

From doing all my research for this project I believe that I have gathered a lot of information that has helped and guided me through my ideas so far. I have collected and looked at many advertising posters in magazines which have given me a very good and clear plan about what I need to include on the posters. Also looking into illustrators, I feel as though it has given me a few more ideas with ways I can include colour in my drawings. Adding colour into my drawings is what I feel I have needed to improve on through my 2 years at university, with feedback generally being that there was more needed. So looking at illustrators I think it has helped me see ways I can keep to what I like and how I design but also just to add that little extra 'push' to get it that slight bit more noticed if it was among other drawings. I have also done the research into wallpaper design, I wanted to get the research for this in order to get an idea about how patterns are made to match up. I need to make sure that when I make my final patterns, I need to get them to be able to match up to each other for the next sheet. 

The way that the research has impacted my work is that it has made me develop more and at first I was only thinking about making some posters for the advertising campaign for a new brand along with the logo, but after doing my research for the adverts, I just wanted to go a little more further with the idea, and push myself into doing something on a bigger scale to what I have done before. It is going to be tricky to get the wallpaper perfectly lined as I have never done anything similar to this, but I think once in a while its good to push myself and try new things.

From the research i've done I have learnt a few things, one being that when I put in the research time  and make my self a timetable, I feel as though I can enjoy the research part more than I am usually. I tend to feel like I need to get the research part done quickly, but by making sure I put aside enough time, now I feel very confident in what I am doing. I think I did this because I made the brief myself and I felt a lot more in control than I have done before. Another thing that I think I have learnt whilst focusing on this project is that I really enjoy the drawing process of lettering. I like to create a font that can be used just on my work, I really like the effect of hand drawn type and the way that it can be seen as simple but I also like it because of the quality is quite rough but also unique.

As said before, my project has changed for the better after doing my research. I have developed my idea further in a way that I had added more on to it in a way of design. I am still carrying on with my initial idea, but I wanted to try something new and would be a lot more interesting. I can visualize what I would like my piece to look like in my final show and I can just see it looking ten times better than I was originally planning with my first idea. So I think that the research has definitely given me the right eye for detail and direction.
